30 Day Blog Challenge - Day 30

Write a letter to your future mate saying whatever you want to say

I was watching Ellen's show from Friday over the weekend. Ellen tends to have a lot of singers on who I've never heard of. So, when she introduced Tori Kelly, I was quick to hit fast-forward on my DVR. But, for some reason, I waited to hear her sing. I wasn't thrilled when she first started singing. Not because she didn't have a great voice. But, because of the lyrics to her song. I kept listening and it didn't take me long to fall in love with this song. As I'm listening to the song, it dawns on me that this is exactly the words I was looking for to full fill day 30 of the 30 Day Blog Challenge. It may seem like an easy-out to this last challenge. For me it's not though. I had been thinking about this challenge for a long time. I kept thinking about what avenue I wanted to take. Did I want to reiterate all of the hurt and pain I've been through over the years. Did I want to elaborate on my laundry list of things I want in a mate? Did I want to explain what I thought to be my weaknesses from being single for so long? Did I want to beg my future mate to not hurt me like the rest of the guys had?  I had a lot of ideas but nothing that was different than what I'd written about in the past. This song really summed it up for me. Here are the lyrics...

I like being independent
Not so much of an investment
No one to tell me what to do
I like being by myself
Don’t gotta entertain anybody else
No one to answer to

But sometimes, I just want somebody to hold
Someone to give me their jacket when its cold
Got that young love even when we’re old
Yeah sometimes, I want someone to grab my hand
Pick me up, pull me close, be my man
I will love you till the end

So if you’re out there I swear to be good to you
But I’m done lookin’, for my future someone
Cause when the time is right
You’ll be here, but for now
Dear no one, this is your love song

I don’t really like big crowds
I tend to shut people out
I like my space, yeah
But I’d love to have a soul mate
God will give him to me someday
&; I know it’ll be worth the wait

So if you’re out there I swear to be good to you
But I’m done lookin’, for my future someone
Cause when the time is right
You’ll be here, but for now
Dear no one, this is your love song

But sometimes, I just want somebody to hold
Someone to give me their jacket when its cold
Got that young love even when we’re old
Yeah sometimes, I want someone to grab my hand
Pick me up, pull me close, be my man
I will love you till the end

So if you’re out there I swear to be good to you
But I’m done lookin’, for my future someone
Cause when the time is right
You’ll be here, but for now
Dear no one, this is your love song
