My local Zoo hosts an annual event called Zoofari--food vendors, drink stations, and more than enough samples to guarantee you don't leave hungry. It has been extremely hot where I live these past few days. with a heat index in the 90's. I was on my feet for 2.5 hours either walking or standing. By the time I got to my car, my back hurt so badly I had to physically lift my leg with my hands just to get inside. I went home and laid down with the heating pad. When I woke up this morning, it felt as if I had been hit by a truck. My legs are so sore, numb, and tingling. My lower back is still aching. I'm simply exhausted. I teeter between being sad, angry, and a bit resentful for people pushing me to get out. I’m someone who works and then goes home to recharge. Being in bed by 8:30 or 9:00, relaxing and watching TV, is what keeps me functioning. It’s what works for me.
And on top of the heat and the physical strain, I ran into people I had absolutely no desire to see. Three former coworkers were there — two of whom made my life miserable at my last job. I smiled, said a quick hi, and kept moving, but for a while they were either right behind me or right in front of me. I felt like a little kid again, trying to hide from playground bullies. It was uncomfortable and unsettling in a way I didn’t expect.
I should play the lottery, because rumor is that being pooped on by a bird is good luck. Yep...that's right. I got pooped on by a bird while at the Zoo.
